Nursery Section

Pure French

Dr. RUZIBIZA Aloys

Children start in the Nursery Section when they are 3 years old. They begin in the “Petite Section”, moving on after one year into the “Moyenne Section” and one year later into the “Grande Section”. After their three years in Nursery, they will move on into Primary Stage 1.

Our Nursery Section is based on the French Ecole Maternelle system. The main aims are to develop our students’ physical, cognitive and social skills. We have a structured and progressive curriculum with activities based around language, music, writing and drawing, mathematics, the world around us, creative expression and sports. Our students experience these different elements in an atmosphere of love and fun.

Teaching and learning in Nursery Section is in French. By the end of the three years, our children are confident working in French; they express themselves naturally in this language, and are beginning to learn how to read and write. In the Moyenne and Grande Sections, they experience an increasing part of their curriculum in English. This is to help prepare them for moving up to Primary Section where all instruction is in English.

Children of Nursery age learn by primarily by play, and by exploring the world around them. They need plenty of opportunity for creative expression and for developing their own ideas. We aim for an active learning approach, where students are engaged in stimulating activities as much as possible, and are encouraged to talk about that they are doing and thinking. Through this approach, our young learners develop their curiosity and independence, and learn how to plan tasks and see them through to completion.
